If you’ve ever said, “I miss cheer,” this is your sign to come back. Whether you’ve been off the mat for five months or fifteen years, Open Level cheer teams are where competitive spirit, community, and raw talent collide—again.

At Cheer Athletics, we’re building some of the most elite adult cheer teams in the nation, and this season, we’re calling on athletes 18+ to bring their energy, experience, and fire to the floor. With locations across the country holding tryouts, there’s never been a better time to rediscover your love for cheer.

What Is Open Level Cheer, and Why Now?

Open Level teams are all-star cheer teams made up of adult athletes, typically 18 and older, who still have the drive to train, perform, and compete at a high level. Some are retired college cheerleaders. Others are former all-star athletes stepping back into the gym. Many are professionals and students who never lost the love of the sport, and are ready to bring it back.

Unlike youth or junior divisions, Open Level is about experience, energy, and reigniting the passion that once pushed you through practices, injuries, and championships.

“It’s inspiring to watch adults walk back into the gym with the same determination they had as teens. Our Open athletes are fierce, focused, and just as passionate—if not more—than ever before.”

You don’t have to travel far to find a world-class Open program. This year, Cheer Athletics is proud to share that 11 of our locations are planning and hoping to build out Open Level cheer teams—each with its own unique legacy and team identity.

Three cheerleaders from an Open Level cheer team perform a synchronized motion with animated expressions during a routine. Dressed in matching black and blue uniforms, they bring dynamic energy to the stage, showcasing the high-performance spirit of open level cheer teams.

The Evolution of Open Level Cheer Teams

The Open Level division has grown into one of the most exciting spaces in all-star cheer. Competitions like The Cheerleading Worlds now feature packed arenas for Open Level routines—showcasing athletes with unmatched strength, timing, and performance value.

And it’s not just about competing. It’s about proving that cheerleading doesn’t have an age limit. You can still hit, stunt, and fly with the best of them, all while creating new memories with teammates who share your hunger to perform.

Open Level cheer at Cheer Athletics is carefully crafted for adult athletes. The training is intentional, the choreography elite, and the community unmatched. These teams are changing the narrative around adult participation in all-star cheer—and it’s only getting bigger.
