2026-2027 Tryouts

Overview

WHAT TO EXPECT

Following tryouts and the Memorial Day holiday, athletes will receive an email on Friday, May 29th with their assigned skills group, beginning June 1st. During this training period, movement between levels may occur based on coach and director evaluation.

Final team placements will be announced by Friday, June 12th.

COMPETITION SCHEDULE

The competition schedule varies by team. Most teams will attend competitions hosted both locally and nationally, with the opportunity to be invited to and to attend End-Of-Season Events (i.e. The Regional Summit, The Cheerleading Worlds, The Summit). Competition schedules will be released in July/August.

TRAVEL EXPENSES

Season travel varies by team. Most teams will attend 1-2 competitions per season that require out-of-town travel. Travel expectations vary by team level and/or age division. Travel expenses are not included in tuition. Athletes are required to book travel in accordance with guidelines provided throughout the season. Travel dates will be shared after the competition schedule is released.

Time Commitment

Participating in our All Star Cheer program is a 12-month commitment. During June and July, teams will typically have two weekday practices. Sunday practices will begin in August and will continue through May 2027. All teams will switch to the fall schedule, and teams will have practice on Sunday, August 9, 2026. Additional practices and extended practices will be scheduled during important times of the season. Athletes are expected to prioritize their participation in our program and fully commit to attending all scheduled practices.

All Star Tryout Ready Clinics

Join the All Star Elite Staff at Cheer Athletics Plano for our All Star Tryout Ready Clinics — designed to sharpen technique, clean execution, and build confidence before evaluations.

Athletes will learn and practice the official Cheer Athletics Plano Mini Routine, receive individualized feedback on motions, jumps, tumbling, timing, and performance quality, and gain a clear understanding of the skills required to perform successfully at each level. These sessions ensure athletes understand tryout expectations and walk in feeling fully prepared. Train the CA way..

Tryouts

Tryouts are designed to be a positive experience for athletes to showcase skills.

We try to group athletes with others close to their age and/or close to their skill set during tryouts. Each athlete will be evaluated on their skills and will be observed by numerous coaches and directors throughout the process. All athletes doing flyer evaluations must have completed a regular tryout to have their full skill set evaluated before their flyer tryout. Email levels@cheerathletics.com to schedule.

Returning Athletes/No Evaluation Tryouts

For athletes who wish to remain at the level in which they competed at CA-Plano for the 25-26 season, they may register for a Returning Athlete/No Evaluation Tryout. The athletes will still need to complete the skills sheet as well as come to the gym for an updated tryout photo and will be exempt from the tumbling portion of the evaluation/tryout process.

The coaches from the 25-26 season will evaluate the athlete based on the skills thrown in their team routine. If an athlete wishes for any tumbling improvements to be considered beyond their last competition or did not tumble in the routine, we encourage those athletes to do a regular tryout session. Please reach out to your team coaches if you have any questions or need guidance in considering this option.

All Star Prep

Overview

ALL STAR PREP

Cheer Athletics All Star Prep program is the ideal place for beginners to get started in the sport of All Star Cheer. We offer full year and half year options within the All Star Prep program. Full year participation runs June 2026 through May 2027 and includes participation in several local competitions (within the state of Texas). There is no experience necessary to join the All Star Prep program!

TEAM PLACEMENT

Team placement is primarily determined by birth year and skill level. Athletes that try out are typically placed on a team. Team rosters, placement within routines, and participation, are subject to change at any point and for any reason under coaches' discretion. Team announcements will be sent to the email on file with our customer portal platform. As part of our ongoing efforts to streamline operations for our athletes and families, we do not allow athletes to participate in tryouts at multiple Cheer Athletics locations simultaneously. This measure is intended to minimize disruptions during the team placement process and to ensure fairness for all participants.

PRACTICE & ATTENDANCE

Full year participation is a 12-month commitment. All Star Prep teams practice twice a week for a total of 3-4 hours. Teams will have two mandatory choreography days in August. Extra practices will be added during the fall season. Athletes are expected to prioritize their participation in the program and to fully commit to attending all scheduled practices.

Tryouts

Tryouts are designed to be a low-stress, positive experience for athletes to showcase their skills and potential. Athletes must register and attend a two-day Regular Tryout Session. Once team rosters are set, athletes will be notified of their team placement and practice schedule.

Athletes must pay all necessary tryout fees to participate in tryout sessions. For those that cannot attend our regular dates please email Jchester@cheerathletics.com.
